US-based salvor Donjon Marine says it has made “steady and significant progress towards” completing the wreck removal and disposal of the remnants of the bulk carrier Fedra which, grounded and sank off Europa Point Gibraltar during a severe storm, in October 2008. The company hopes to finish the project by late autumn this year, weather permitting.

Donjon has now removed all of the remaining superstructure, main deck forward of the engine room and all subsurface bottom and side shell forward of the engine room bulkhead forward and most of the machinery in the engine room. The remaining work includes removal of the shell of the engine room and final clean up of the work area once the main structure is removed. In addition Donjon has removed thousands of gallons of fuel and related contaminates which remained in the hull from the initial clean up operation, accomplishing one of the primary goals of the project to protect the pristine waters off the coast of Gibraltar and surrounding area.
