   Paradip port not to remove sunk ship

Paradip port authorities on Saturday ruled out dismantling Mongolian ship MV Black Rose, which had sank near the coast last September. "The owner of the foreign vessel should dismantle and remove the shipwreck," Paradip Port Trust (PPT) chairman Biplav Kumar said.

The port official, however, added that removal of the shipwreck was necessary for the safety of ships and other vessels. "Till that time, the shipwreck site has been declared a no navigation zone. Moreover, the upper portion of the sunken ship is also visible and therefore local fishermen have no problem while fishing in the area," Kumar said.

He said PPT had written to the central government for removal of Black Rose because the port couldn’t afford the money involved in the operation.
