Grain loaded for export from the French port of Rouen, Europe’s biggest cereal-shipping hub, jumped 85 percent in the week through yesterday, boosted by wheat destined for Algeria, Mauritius and Cuba.

Outgoing grain cargoes were 116,600 metric tons between Dec. 30 and Jan. 5, the Seine River port said in an e-mailed statement today, up from 62,964 tons a week earlier. Shipments included 104,250 tons of wheat and 12,350 tons of barley. Algeria was the biggest single export destination with 52,250 tons of wheat, almost double the amount loaded for dispatch to the country in the previous week.
