Five Pirate Investors Arrested

Police from Somalia’s semi-autonomous region of Puntland arrested five pirates in Qardho city of Karkaar region during the last security operation in the city, senior officers said on Thursday.

Officials told Somalia Report that these pirates were investors, and are mostly businessmen.

“The pirates are pirate investors, a number of them were businessmen ; we arrested them and transferred them to Bosaso Jail,” Abshirayto, a police officer in Karkaar, told Somalia Report. “Firstly, they had a small business and in the last months they began to invest in piracy ; this happens often that small businessmen look to invest in piracy to earn a lot of money.”

They five are due in court soon, and there are many pirates in the Karkaar region since they began to join clashes in Rako Raho.
