An elderly Latvian general cargoship at the centre of a rescue operation earlier today has safely reached the small port of Castle Bay on the Scottish island of Barra.
The 2,560-dwt Sea Fox (built 1976) managed to reach the harbour under its own power, although a lifeboat escorted the vessel in and helicopters were on standby to rescue the 10 seafarers on board.
The vessel developed a fifty degree list after its timber cargo shifted in heavy seas on a voyage from Riga to Liverpool. The UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency said the Sea Fox would remain at Castle Bay until inspected by its surveyors.
The Sea Fox is managed by Baltic Shipmanagement of Riga with the registered owner Almarina Shipping of Louisiana in the US.
