A damaged oil tanker, which had been sheltering off the Copeland Islands near Belfast since mid-December, has finally docked for repairs.

The Genmar Companion which is registered in Bermuda, had been carrying 54,000 tonnes of gas oil.

The vessel had been en route from Rotterdam to New York in December when cracks were found on its upper deck.

An operation to pump the oil out was delayed several times by bad weather over the new year period.

It later emerged that along with a crew of 23 mostly from India and the Philippines, there was a two-year-old child.
