ST.PETERSBURG : Tanker slams into bridge

(ST.PETERSBURG)

A Russian oil tanker on Saturday slammed into a St Petersburg bridge, leaking diesel oil into the Neva River in Russia’s former imperial capital, officials said. The Irkutsk tanker loaded with over 3,000 metric tons of diesel oil hit the pier of the Troitsky bridge less than a kilometre away from the Hermitage Museum. Officials said that the ship badly damaged its bow, and leaked ’not a very big amount’ of diesel into the river. In the background is the Zimny or winter palace.
